South Korea is one of the leading countries in research and development (R&D), with its R&D spending ranking fifth in the world. The country鈥檚 investment in innovation has grown rapidly over the years, with its R&D expenditure almost doubling in just 10 years. While the quick expansion is seen as a big success for the country, its research landscape still has some structural problems. For example, there are still large disparities between the investment amounts of big conglomerates and smaller businesses, and also between the manufacturing and services sectors. The aging population also increases the risk of a talent shortage in the future, which could worsen the existing structural problems.聽
