Energy sector in Finland - statistics & facts
Due to the cold climate and energy-intensive industry and living standard, Finland has a high energy demand. The country lacks fossil fuels and therefore relies on wood-based fuels, peat reserves, and its extensive wood resources. Even though nuclear power forms the largest share of energy generation, Finland’s energy sector is switching to more renewable sources, which have seen significant growth over the past decades. By 2035, the Finnish government aims to achieve carbon neutrality and carbon negativity soon after.
