Fossil fuels in China - statistics & facts
China consumes by far the most energy in the world, accounting for more than 27 percent of global consumption in 2023. More than 50 percent of the country’s energy is produced from coal, relying almost exclusively on domestic resources. In contrast, oil and gas need to be imported and the amount of these imports have soared over the years, making China the largest recipient of oil and gas shipments in the world.
