In the sport of cricket, few subjects are as divisive as the Twenty20 format. Since then, the format has moved from strength to strength, and the World Cup has become both a major event in the cricketing calendar and a lucrative source of income for the ICC; the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup alone generated over 350 million U.S. dollars in revenue for the governing body. In the wider context of the ICC’s income from cricket events, earnings from the 2022 competition represented over 85 percent of the governing body’s event-related revenue for the year.
