The worldwide oil and gas industry has been ramping up mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity, with 2024 off to a hot start. The first two months of 2024 reported the highest deal value of a first quarter since 2017, following years of decline. This surge is largely thanks to transactions undertaken by United States-based companies. Being home to many of the world’s most profitable public oil and gas entities, the U.S. has dominated oil and gas mergers and acquisitions more than any other country. It regularly accounts for between 50 and 80 percent of the world’s total deal value.
