LGBTQ+ in Latin America - statistics & facts
The actuality of the LGBTQ+ community in Latin America is still a cruel reality full of discrimination, sexism, and hate crimes. Even though most countries do not persecute the community, the rights are still lacking, and the progress made thus far is inadequate. In fact, only nine countries have legalized same-sex marriage. Further, only eight have legalized same-sex adoption; nonetheless, barriers still exist even in countries where marriage or adoption are legal, including insufficient support, social prejudices, and unclear laws or vague juridical formulations.
