Transport Industry in Norway - Statistics & Facts
Norway has the second-lowest population density in Europe, following Iceland. The challenging geography and topography of Norway with the country's long coastline and numerous fjords have a significant impact on its transport system. Train travel between Oslo and Bergen, which are the two largest cities, takes around seven hours as does driving by car. Therefore, air travel is a convenient mode of transportation, including for domestic travel, which is also reflected in the share that domestic aviation emissions play in Norway's total transport emissions. However, road transport is still the dominant mode of transport for domestic travel, including bus travel, which is the most common mode of public transport in Norway.
