Electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the United Kingdom - Statistics & facts
In December 2024, the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport launched a new consultation to collect views from the industry on how to deliver on the government’s commitment to restoring the 2030 deadline to phase out new fossil fuel vehicle sales. This reinstatement of this target is expected to build on the pre-existing framework established by previous governments, including investments of over six billion Great British pounds in the country’s charging infrastructure. These investments have contributed to the consistent growth in the volume of available public charging points in the UK. Despite this increase, consumers believed there were not enough public charging points available to meet the demand as of September 2023. Many factors, including demographic features, play a part in this disconnect between consumer perception and governmental measures.
