From visiting cozy Christmas markets to hitting the slopes at some of the best ski spots worldwide, Europe has much to offer as a winter tourism destination. Some of the most visited European winter travel locations are in the Alpine countries, including the likes of Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. In 2024, the Alps accounted for over 20 percent of total overnight stays in France in winter; meanwhile, overnight stays of Austrian domestic tourists in winter exceeded 16 million.
