Renewable energy in the Middle East and North Africa region - statistics & facts
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, traditionally associated with abundant fossil fuel resources, is undergoing a transformative shift towards a more sustainable energy future centered around renewable sources. Governments in the region are increasingly recognizing the importance of diversifying their energy mix and reducing dependence on traditional fossil fuels. Saudi Arabia, aiming for a 50 percent by 2030, led the region with the highest between 2012 and 2022, followed by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This transition is driven by a combination of environmental concerns, the need for energy security, and the economic benefits associated with renewable energy development.
