State of health in South Korea - statistics & facts
South Korea is one of four so-called Asian 鈥渢iger鈥 or 鈥渄ragon鈥 states that rapidly industrialized and developed into high-income economies between the 1950s and the 1990s, experiencing many years of high GDP growth rates. This progress is reflected in the overall health of the population and the advanced national medical and healthcare industries. In 1954, one year after the end of the Korean War, life expectancy at birth stood at 49 years for women and 44.9 years for men. By 2021, this had increased to 86.8 and 80.4 years respectively.
