Art market in France - statistics & facts
France, famous for its appreciation of the arts, is home to the fourth-largest art market worldwide. It is now also the biggest market in the European Union (EU) since the United Kingdom took its leave. A big reason for this success is that France has one of the lowest reduced VAT rates on imported works of art in Europe, at just 5.5 percent as of 2025. Despite the fact that the total sales value of the French art market exceeded four billion U.S. dollars in 2024, France accounted for less than 10 percent of the global art market value. Comparatively, the United States generated over 40 percent of sales of art and antiques worldwide that year.
