In vitro diagnostics (IVD) are tests that are carried out on samples taken from the body. Diagnostics is one of the most important parts of healthcare, and IVDs can detect a range of conditions, diseases, and infections. The devices that comprise the IVD industry can also range from small, simple tests that can be used in the home to complex laboratory appliances. Almost all doctors have experienced changing a diagnosis or treatment plan due to results from a test they ordered. Within the medical technology industry as a whole, IVD was the single-largest revenue-producing segment worldwide, with a marker share of 13 percent.
