'NewFest', otherwise known as The New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Film Festival, is run by The New Festival, Inc., a non-profit media arts organization founded in 1988. The organization was the first of its kind in that it specialized in LGBTQ media, and has been an important part of the community since its inception. NewFest is partnered with New York City's LGBT Center to provide screenings of films there on a monthly basis, and to this day still plays a significant role in promoting and encouraging LGBTQ voices and creative productions.
