Note: 1 Hong Kong dollar equals 0.12 euros or 0.13 U.S. dollars (as of July 2024). The coverage of industries in the business sector is based on the Hong Kong Standard Industrial Classification Version 2.0 which has been adopted since 2008. Figures for the years of 2008 or before did not cover: sewerage, waste collection, treatment and disposal activities, materials recovery and remediation activities and other waste management services. Nevertheless, those industries had only slight effect on the overall figures.
As from the reference year of 2018, the implicit user cost of R&D facilities has been included in the R&D expenditures. The R&D expenditure figures form 2018 onwards are not directly comparable with those of earlier years.
