India’s theatrical rebound in 2025

India’s theatrical market nevertheless continued to strengthen in 2025. Gross box office revenues rose to about *** billion rupees, an increase of around ** percent compared to the previous year. This rebound reflects both a stronger pipeline of releases across Hindi and regional industries and a gradual restoration of cinemagoing habits after several weaker years. Telugu led in the number of film releases with *** titles, followed by Hindi and Tamil movies.  

 A world leader in cinema 

  India has consistently been the world leader in the number of films produced annually. In addition, India is the number two country in terms of film tickets sold. Finally, the Indian film industry has wide reach, with Indian theatrical releases generating significant international box office revenues.
