During the survey period, 49 percent of the respondents stated that they planned to wear dress clothes, such as a suit or a dress. To wear a bunad, the traditional folk costume, was popular among 36 percent of the respondents.
The background for this celebration is the signature of the Constitution of Norway in Eidsvoll on May 17, 1814. Many traditions come along with that day. For instance the king and his family stand on the balcony of the royal palace in Oslo and wave to the children and other people that pass by in a parade. Also, flags are hoisted all over the country.
