How much milk is produced in the EU?
An estimated **** million metric tons of liquid milk were produced in the European Union (EU27) in 2022. This amount is the output after milk waste, milk fed to farm animals, milk used or consumed on farms, and milk used for the production of dairy products are deducted. In 2022, the latter was enough milk to produce about ** million tons of dairy products that are not liquid milk. Two thirds of these ** million tons were cheese and sour milk products. European milk was produced by over **million dairy cows.
Production in the UK
Milk produced for consumption and the production of dairy products in the UK amounted to about **** billion liters in 2017/18. This is a significant increase in production compared to 2013/14 when production output was under ** billion liters.
Dairy market in Europe
The European dairy market made an estimated *** billion US dollars in revenue in 2019. The most profitable product was cheese (excluding cream cheese) with about billion dollars in revenue.
