*Average venue utilisation is defined as the attendance per ticket availability divided by the venue capacity.
Figures do not include the 248,274 tickets and 6,194,244 Australian dollars in sales revenue generated by the Fringe World Festival (Perth) in 2015.
Festivals are not included in the data, due to difficulties in defining venue capacity for those events.
Events staged by Cirque du Soleil are also excluded from the data set, since they are held in multi-purpose venues that are difficult for accurate estimations of the venue capacity. Events from the circus and physical theater category are also excluded for the same reasons.
Data from 19 major Australian self-ticketing venues and event promoters were used. In addition, data of the 28 members of the Australian Major Performing Arts Group (AMPAG) were provided by the Australia Council for the Arts. However, as some ticketing companies, event promoters and AMPAG companies could not provide venue capacity date, data is henceforth not representative of the entire industry.
