In financial year 2024, the export value of alcoholic beverages from India reached 375 million U.S. dollars, marking an increase from the previous year. A significant portion of these exports were directed towards the United Arab Emirates, making it a key market for Indian alcoholic beverages. 

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol use in India is influenced by regional differences in social norms and legal restrictions, often defined by state-specific regulations. In 2024, the per capita alcohol consumption in the country was estimated to be over five liters of pure alcohol. Of all the states, Arunachal Pradesh, Telangana, and Sikkim reported high levels of alcohol consumption among males. On the other hand, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim had the highest alcohol consumption among women too, highlighting the distinct consumption patterns across various demographics.

Market Players

The alcoholic beverage market in India stood at approximately 55 billion U.S. dollars in 2023. Two key players dominating the market in revenue were United Spirits and United Breweries. United Spirits notably recorded revenue exceeding 100 billion Indian rupees for the same year. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola, a major player in the non-alcoholic beverage market, is venturing into India's alcoholic beverage sector with the launch of Lemon-Dou, a lime-flavored cocktail.
