For the purposes of this analysis, opioid abuse was defined as meeting the following two conditions: 1. Receiving greater than a cumulative 90-day supply of opioids; AND 2. Receiving an opioid prescription from four or more providers over the five-year period between 2011 and 2015.

This statistic shows the percentage of people who abused their opioid prescriptions in the U.S. from 2011 to 2015 in states with and without legal medical marijuana. It was found that *** percent of people with an opioid prescription in states prohibiting medical marijuana abused their prescription, whereas only *** percent of those with opioid prescriptions in states permitting medical marijuana abused their prescriptions.
