About blocks were present in India in 2012. Andhra Pradesh had the highest number of blocks that year.
Based on the administrative structure, a block or a community development block is a district subdivision for the purpose of rural development department and Panchayati Raj institutes, consisting of a cluster of villages. The villages come under the block category for planning and development purposes only, for the administration of land and revenue department they come under Thesil/Taluk. A Thesil/Taluk may consist of one or more blocks. Local titles are often used for the same level of subdivision depending on the state or union territory.

Block Development Officer

The Block Development Officers are instrumental in the development and regulatory administration of the blocks, they are supported by several technical specialists and workers. The Chief Development Officer oversees all blocks within a district where programs related to planning and development of blocks are implemented.

Municipal Corporation

Villages and blocks are the smallest subdivisions that exist only in rural areas. Like blocks in rural areas, urban areas have urban local bodies that manage the city’s developments. Municipal corporation or city corporation is the local governing body for urban areas with a population of more than a million.
