Insolvencies in the UK - statistics & facts
In 2023, the number of company insolvencies in England and Wales reached levels higher than in the late 2000s, during the global financial crisis. There has also been a gradual uptick in insolvencies in Scotland and in Northern Ireland, although not as pronounced as in England and Wales. Furthermore, in 2022 the number of business deaths in the UK exceeded the number of business births for the first time since 2010. Overall weakness in the UK economy is clearly impacting UK businesses suffering from several years of economic shocks.
