According to the source, the demand for office space 'consists of both the space on the free market as well as buildings being constructed by the users themselves. Demand is registered in the year both parties reach an agreement or - in case of construction for own use - when the construction process has started'. The office buildings used in the research are 500 square meters and larger.

The demand for office space in the Netherlands varies drastically between the * provinces. While some see very high numbers, others require only a fraction of that. In 2020, approximately ** square meters of office space was in demand in the province of North Holland. In Zeeland, however, the demand was only square meters high.
