Since 2015, the SCV-survey (Socio-cultural movements in Flanders) by the study center of the Flemish government also includes questions on attitudes towards people identifying as transgender. The original survey consists of three parts: one part with background questions, one part with questions returning every two or three years, and a third part with questions on current affairs.

Citation formats

According to this survey conducted in 2015, a certain intolerance towards transgender people exists in the Flemish population. Indeed, nearly ** percent of the Flemish respondents believed transgender people should pay sex reassignment surgery themselves.

On the other hand, ** percent of people declared that transgender people should not have to pay for sex reassignment surgery. Although surveys provide limited insight, to this day, it is safe to say that transgender people still face discrimination in Flanders.
