Data up until the year 2022 show that poultry meat consumption across the European Union increased to about 12.3 million metric tons. In the following decade consumption will likely continue to increase, with the forecast up until 2034 reaching 13 million metric tons.

Poultry production in Europe

The European Union is the fourth biggest broiler meat producer in the world, producing 11.5 million metric tons in 2024. Broiler meat refers to chickens that are bred for the sole purpose of meat production. In 2022, Poland and France were the largest poultry producing countries throughout Europe, with 1.28 billion and 837.9 million poultry slaughtered respectively.

Reduction in meat consumption

With the consumption of poultry set to slow down in the future, it is no surprise that the plant-based food market is predicted to increase. By 2030, the global plant-based food market is forecast to be valued at about 162 billion U.S. dollars. In the United Kingdom, 23 percent of consumers are trying to eat less meat and about seven percent of consumers reported following a vegetarian diet as of 2025.
