The share of Swedish population with access to the Internet at their homes increased over the period from 2009 to 2019. In 2009, 85 percent of the respondents stated to have access to the internet. Gradually, the percentage reached 98 percent as of 2018. How old are the internet users in Sweden?. That year, all Swedish respondents to the survey who were aged between 16 and 25 stated to be using the internet. Overall, the share was higher than 90 percent among all age groups, apart from the age of 76 or older. That year, over ten percent of both men and women in Sweden aged between 65 and 74 years had never used the Internet. Around one third of the interviewed people in the oldest age group – between 75 and 85 years had not used the internet, either.

Why do Swedes use the Internet?

The leading reasonto use the Internet among Swedes was for job purposes in 2018. Second most common field of use that year was to read or write emails. Among other popular Internet purposes were social networks, Google search and Facebook. Ninth and tenth in this ranking were Spotify and Instagram.

Internet access in the Nordics

Within the Nordic countries, Sweden had the highest number of individuals with internet access in 2018. Second was Denmark, whereas Finland and Norway followed with under four million people who accessed the internet.
