The “Diagnostics & Maintenance” segment includes “Predictive Maintenance”, “Usage-based insurance” and “Remote Update Services”. “Predictive Maintenance” involves continually collecting and analyzing vehicle data. If abnormalities are detected the car owner receives a notification via email, or the workshop/garage will be informed so that action can be taken proactively. Cost savings are achieved through early reaction to problems and the avoidance of redundant garage visits. In “Usage-based insurance” (also known as “pay-as-you-drive” and “pay-how-you-drive”) the amount of the insurance premium is calculated from the individual driving style and the distance travelled. A “Connected Car” records the required data and submits them to the insurance company; the insurer has to pay a fee for the data transmission. The data transmission via so-called “dongles” is out of scope. “Remote Update Services” do not need to be downloaded at the dealer’s or in the garage/workshop, instead they are received “Over-the-Air” (OTA).
