According to the source, gross value added is calculated by deducting intermediate consumption from the production values; it therefore only includes the value added created in the production process. Gross value added is valued at basic prices, i.e. excluding taxes payable on goods (taxes on products), but including subsidies on products received. When moving from gross value added (at basic prices) to gross domestic product, the net taxes on products (taxes on products less subsidies on products) must be added globally according to the source in order to arrive at a valuation of gross domestic product at market prices.
