In 2024, males seemed to be much heavier smokers than females in Italy. In fact, if the number of male and female smokers who smoked up to 10 cigarettes was rather similar, but the gap between the two genders increased considerably from 10 cigarettes on. In particular, the number of male smokers who smoked between 11 and 20 cigarettes per day was almost double the number of female smokers who would do so. Moreover, 258 thousand male smokers declared to smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day, while this figure for female smokers was equal to 76 thousand. This figure shows the number of cigarettes smoked in Italy in 2024, by gender (in 1,000 individuals).
