Food is an important part of every person’s life, and the Spaniards know this very well. As of January 2024, Spain could count on its more than * food and beverage companies to enjoy the country’s Mediterranean flavors. Andalusia, being one of Spain’s biggest regions, had the largest number of this type of companies (nearly ). Catalonia ranked second on the list with figures amounting to nearly food and beverage companies. 

The food and beverage sector in Spain

The food and beverage industry revenues have been fluctuating in recent years, with the peak registered at approximately ** billion euros in 2024. As for consumption, it is worth noting that Spaniards' consumption of many products have seen a decrease between November 2024 and November 2025, perhaps due to inflation. 

The Spanish tradition of eating at home

The average Spaniard spent much more on their at-home food and drinks than eating out. At-home expenditure in Spain stood at approximately **** billion euros in 2022. On the other hand, the annual away-from-home food and beverage expenditure has been much lower than the at-home one, hitting a record low in 2020 at billion euros. The sector however picked up since, and by 2024 the expenditure on food and beverages away from home reached approximately ** billion euros.
