In recent years, the value of alcoholic beverages imported into Sweden has been growing overall. In 2022, it amounted to approximately 12.6 billion Swedish kronor. Among this, the value of imported wine into the country was roughly 9.5 billion Swedish kronor during 2024. The climate in Sweden makes wine cultivation rather difficult. There are only a few vineyards producing small quantities of wine. That’s why Sweden is open for foreign wines and imports a high value of it.

Wine export

Due to a very low domestic production, the export value was approximately 302 million Swedish kronor as of 2022. Nevertheless, it increased overall during the past. Most wine exports from Sweden were destined for neighboring Nordic countries.

 Alcohol law in Sweden

All Nordic countries except Denmark have strong restrictions on the sales of alcoholic beverages. In Sweden, beverages with an alcohol content higher than 3.5 percent are only allowed to be sold by Systembolaget, a government-owned chain of liquor stores. People aged 20 years and older can buy alcoholic beverages there.
