Of the many vacuum cleaners on offer in Great Britain, Dyson is by far the most popular brand. In 2020, an estimated million peoples used them, which was more than times the number of Hoover users.
The American brand Hoover was once so popular in Britain that the brand name became synonymous with the term “vacuum cleaner”. Despite the industry now being dominated by Dyson, the term “hoover” is still widely used today.

Dyson

Founded in 1991 by the British inventor Sir James Dyson, the company is best known for its vacuum cleaners. However, it manufactures many other products such as hand dryers, air purifiers and bladeless fans.
It is now a global brand that has seen its worldwide annual revenue increase significantly in recent years, rising from **** billion GBP in 2010 to *** billion by 2018. In 2019, Dyson made plans to move its headquarters from the UK to Singapore. The company also announced that it would be building its first-ever electric vehicle factory there.

Household appliances

Though Dyson is the most popular vacuum cleaner brand, it is Philips and Bosch who are the most popular household appliance brands overall, according to a YouGov survey. Consumer spending on household appliances in the UK has almost doubled since 2008, rising to **** billion GBP in 2019.
