Domestic tourism spending in Portugal totaled 8.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2021, after having dropped to less than six billion in the previous year as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. However, it still remained below pre-pandemic levels. By 2023, domestic spending reached 17.2 billion euros, much above pre-pandemic values.
