Company - owned by the supplying oil company whose name appears on the brand sign.
Dealer - an independently owned site usually supplied under an agreement with an oil company whose name usually appears on the brand sign. Also includes unbranded sites with no oil company identification.
Hypermarket - owned and operated by the multiple retailers (hypermarket groups), also includes sites that may be away from the main hypermarket store but are owned and branded by the hypermarket; and includes Co-op Stores with Co-op fuel branded forecourts.

Petrol station owner type numbers in the United Kingdom (UK) 2000-2023
Dealers owned petrol stations have by far the largest number of operational sites, with open sites as of 2023. Nonetheless, total number of petrol station sites declined since 2000 by around a third. The number of petrol stations owned by hypermarkets grew, but continued to hold the smallest share of petrol station sites up until 2015, when a sharp reduction in the number of companies owning sites moved them to second in the list up until 2023 when they became third.
Despite the low number of petrol stations owned by hypermarkets, the volume of motor fuel sold in the United Kingdom by these sites was by far higher compared to the other ownership petrol stations. In 2023, hypermarkets sold * kiloliters of motor fuel annually, while dealer sites sold an average kiloliter per annum.
