With total sales reaching just under 2.25 billion U.S. dollars, potato chips were the best-selling type of salty snack in convenience stores in the United States in 2025. Other popular salted snacks included tortilla chips, cheese snacks, and crackers. 

Salty snacks in U.S. convenience stores

On average, an American convenience store generated just under 3,000 U.S. dollars in sales each month in 2019. Tortilla chips generated about 1,000 U.S. dollars in c-stores each month. In general, salty snacks made up approximately three percent of all in-store sales in U.S. convenience stores.

Convenience store count

Accounting for more than 16,000 locations in 2022, Texas was the state with the highest number of convenience stores in the United States. There were 4,000 more of these types of stores in Texas than there were in California, the state that stood in second place in terms of c-store count that year.
