This statistic compares the United Kingdom (UK) national minimum wage (NMW) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) percentage changes from 2000 to February 2013. This helps to understand the real value of the NMW increases. From 2000 to 2008, the NMW increased above the level of inflation (as measured by the CPI). From 2009 to February 2013, however, the NMW increased below the CPI, meaning that in real terms, people working at the NMW level were earning less.
