The Stanley Cup Finals are the culmination of the National Hockey League season in which the winners of the Eastern and Western Conferences compete for the oldest professional sports trophy in North America. The Montreal Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup a record 24 times since 1915. However, their most recent title came way back in the 1992/93 season.
Kings of the Stanley Cup
Founded in 1909, the Montreal Canadiens are the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team and the only existing NHL club to predate the founding of the NHL itself. The team was dominant in the 1950s, winning five consecutive Stanley Cups between 1956 and 1960 and appearing in the finals in 10 consecutive seasons between 1950 and 1960. Their most recent championship in 1992/93 also marks the last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup. The revenue of the Montreal-based franchise stood at 320 million U.S. dollars in the 2024/25 season. The Canadiens play their home games at the Bell Centre in Montreal and regularly sell out their stadium. The average attendance during the 2023/24 season was just over 20,000.Â
Canadian competitors
The Toronto Maple Leafs have the second highest amount of Stanley Cup titles with 13 wins to their name. Their last title came in 1967 and the team has not reached the final since, despite their division championship title in 2000. Although the Maple Leafs have lacked success in recent years, they remain the most valuable franchise in the NHL with an estimated worth of 4.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2025.Â
