Leading brands and markets

Volkswagen Group sells cars, trucks and motorcycles under several different brands, including the Volkswagen namesake brand, Porsche, Audi, Ducati, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Scania, and MAN. VW’s platform-sharing strategy has been the mainspring of the group’s success: Volkswagen uses the same platform to manufacture different models and brands. Volkswagen Passenger Car's is the automaker's leading brand. The company has shifted part of its production to China, the largest market for passenger vehicles globally.

In September 2015, it was confirmed that around *** million vehicles sold by Volkswagen were fitted with rigged engines. As a result of the Volkswagen diesel scandal, the company has been accused of nefarious and disingenuous behavior. Despite the lack of trustworthiness the carmaker now has, Volkswagen continued to increase its car sales throughout 2020, but recorded a dip in 2021 and 2022, in parts due to the automotive semiconductor shortage. The group's electric vehicle sales did not follow the same pattern in 2021, in part due to Volkswagen's new strategy to prioritize electric mobility.
