The world’s largest machine tool manufacturing companies include Japan's Mazak, Germany's Trumpf, and China's Shenyang. DMG Mori Seiki Co. acquired a majority stake in its German sister company in 2015 to become one of the largest machine tool manufacturing company in the world.

Machine tools are used to shape rigid metals such as metals, by cutting, shearing, grinding or lathing. They are typically operated by a machinist.
