NFL Pro Bowl play compensation – additional information

The Pro Bowl, the NFL’s all-star game, was usually played one week after the Super Bowl. Since 2010, however, the Pro Bowl has been played between the final week of the playoffs and the Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the NFL. Around eight million people watched the Pro Bowl game on TV in 2020, which is significantly less than the regular Super Bowl TV viewership. In 2020, almost 100 million of people in the U.S. watched the Super Bowl on TV.

Coaches, players and fans vote on the players that take part in the Pro Bowl. The players chosen to participate in the game receive some monetary compensation. Players on the winning team received 74 thousand U.S. dollars in compensation in 2020, while players on the losing team were paid 37 thousand U.S. dollars.

These figures are relatively small compared to players’ salaries. Detroit Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford was the highest paid NFL player in 2019, with a salary of 29.5 million U.S. dollars.
