* The Entertainment segment consists of the CBS Television Network, CBS Television Studios, CBS Studios International, CBS Television Distribution, CBS Films and CBS Interactive. Entertainment revenues are generated primarily from advertising sales, content licensing and distribution, and affiliate and subscription fees.
Figures other than for 2016 and 2017 come from CBS Corporation's earlier financial releases.
On April 2, 2014, CBS Outdoor Americas Inc. (鈥淥utdoor Americas鈥), which was previously a subsidiary of CBS Corporation (the "Company" or "CBS Corp.") and has been renamed Outfront Media Inc., completed an initial public offering through which it sold approximately 19% of its common stock and on July 16, 2014, CBS Corp. disposed of its approximately 81% ownership of Outdoor Americas through a tax-free split-off. For 2014, net earnings from discontinued operations, net of tax, includes a gain on the disposal of Outdoor Americas of $1.56 billion, or $2.78 per diluted share.
On September 30, 2013, the Company completed the sale of its outdoor advertising business in Europe, which included an interest in an outdoor business in Asia (鈥淥utdoor Europe鈥) for $225 million. Outdoor Europe has been presented as a discontinued operation in the Company鈥檚 consolidated financial statements.
In 2014, in connection with the early redemption of $1.07 billion of its debt, the Company recorded a pretax loss on early extinguishment of debt of $352 million ($219 million, net of tax), or $.39 per diluted share.
