LP stands for 'long play' vinyl record. EP stands for 'extended play', a musical recording that contains more than a single, but less than a full album. Figures for the period prior to 2022 were taken from RIAA's earlier publications.
In 2024, **** million LPs and EPs were shipped in the United States, slightly up from **** million a year earlier. Sales of LPs and EPs have been steadily increasing since 2016 as the format underwent a resurgence in popularity, in contrast to CD albums sales which are in decline.
