User count estimates are derived from two primary data sources:
ÌÇÐÄÆƽâ°æ Consumer ÌÇÐÄÆƽâ°æ survey data (penetration rates):
The question was phrased by the source as follows: "Which payment services have you used in the past 12 months? (multi-pick)". More information on the methodology can be found here.
The Global Consumer Survey utilizes a rolling survey system with four survey waves per year: The most recent data set contains the interviews of the last 12 months. This ensures trend stability and a higher number of interviews available for analysis, allowing you to adequately analyze smaller target groups, media, and brands.
Population data:Â
Population figures for all countries are sourced from the World Bank, which uses UN World Population Prospects 2024 Revision as its underlying data. Population estimates represent mid-year figures.
Further notes:
Figures are estimates, not official figures. The payment brands do not regularly publish country-level user counts. Survey respondents represent "active users" (used the payment brand at least once in the past 12 months); figures do not distinguish between frequent and occasional users. Survey samples may have demographic bias or coverage gaps in some countries. Penetration rates reflect survey-based estimates and are subject to sampling error. Estimated user numbers are rounded and should be treated as directional indicators rather than precise counts.
