This statistic represents the evolution of the household savings rate in France between 2008 and 2023. It can be seen that the savings rate of French households had been increasing since 2017, reaching 16.5 percent in 2023.

Reasons for saving in France
There are many reasons that motivate the French to save, but the one that seems to convince more than three-quarters of savers is having a safety savings fund (in case of health problems or unemployment, for example). Similarly, just over half of savers respectively declared saving to carry out a project (vacation, car, major renovations, etc.) and/or to finance their retirement.

Housing savings of French households
In 2018, more than two-thirds of French couples, with or without children, were saving, while the proportion of single-parent families or individuals saving in France was less than 30 percent. Overall, one-third of households nationwide held housing savings products. Likewise, according to the socio-professional category of the reference person, the holding of housing savings was higher among farmers (65 percent), followed by executives (52.5 percent) and people practicing a liberal profession (47.6 percent).
