The Survey on Alcohol and Drugs in Spain (EDADES) is promoted and funded by the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs and has the collaboration of the Autonomous Communities/Cities. EDADES has been conducted every two years since 1995 through personal interviews at home and using a questionnaire completed with pencil and paper divided into two parts: self-administered and personal interview.

2024 drug use rates by type among men and women in Spain
In 2024, about ** percent of men and around ** percent of women in Spain consumed alcohol at some point during the past 12 months, while tobacco use reached nearly ** percent among men and **** percent among women. Regarding illegal substances, only in the case of hypnotics and opioids was consumption higher among the female population.
