Fishing vessels of the fleet by type of fishing in Spain in 2023
In 2023, the Spanish fleet consisted of a total of fishing vessels, of which ** percent were trawlers, which in absolute terms translates to about *** units. A large part of them, operating in the Mediterranean, will disappear if the European Commission's plan goes ahead, as warned by the National Federation of Fishermen's Guilds and the shipowners' association Cepesca. The EC's proposal aims to reduce fishing days in these waters by nearly ** percent, which would mean an average of ** days per fleet in 2025.
