**The increase in this indicator is due to the fact that in 2023 the AEMPS received a higher number of complaints from healthcare professionals and the public.
The data were extracted from the successive annual reports prepared by the source. The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) participated in actions against the illegal sale of medicines through the Internet at the international level. These actions are also carried out in coordination with the State Security Forces and Corps as well as with other national and international health authorities.

In 2023, AEMPS initiated 1786 investigations and cessation processes of websites selling illegal medicines, which is the highest figure in the period.
