Distribution of French housing according to their new energy label July 2021
With a new energy performance diagnosis (DPE) in effect from July 1, 2021, about ** percent of the French housing stock changed their class between the new and old DPE. Thus, it is observed that most of these homes moved to an energy class D, meaning their energy consumption per square meter would be between *** and *** kWh annually.
This new DPE is part of the European energy policy to reduce energy consumption in housing and thereby limit greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Greenhouse gas emissions in France
GHGs are among the causes of global warming of our planet; they can be natural, such as ozone or methane, or industrial, such as halogenated hydrocarbons. In 2019, nearly half of the French population reported being concerned about global warming and its effects, considering GHGs the most worrying environmental threat.
