Various indicators are used for the classification of universities:
- Number of Nobel Prize or Fields Medal laureates either trained at the university (weighted 10 percent) or working there (weighted 20 percent).
- Number of highly cited researchers in 21 general subjects (20 percent).
- Number of articles published in the scientific journals Science and Nature (20 percent).
- Number of academic papers indexed in the Science Citation Index and the Social Science Citation Index (20 percent).
- Per capita performance, that is, the score of all the above indicators divided by the number of full-time faculty members (10 percent).
